Overview of my research:

My interests lie in all areas of Natural Language Generation, including pure research, as well as its integration into cultural activities, learning environments, interfaces for animated agents, and large-scale generation projects. I have looked into the topics of discourse planning, sentence planning, surface realization, document planning, revision, multimodal explanation generation, spatial expressions, discourse markers, self-explaining documents and multilingual generation. These have spanned the domains of Little Red Riding Hood stories, plant physiology and anatomy, physics concepts, common household objects, and recipes. I am currently looking into NLG for story generation in large scale NLG systems. My goal is to be able to determine what level of modularity is needed to create off-the-shelf NLG systems for a variety of end-user systems such as 3D animated learning environments, narrative fiction and multi-page document generation, as well as create interactive development environments for NLG and user interfaces in cultural settings.
